A long-distance relationship is not for everyone, and most certainly is not for the faint of heart. You feel lonely, you feel vacant, and you may be consumed with troubling thoughts that he may be cheating on you. Even when there’s no basis to doubt him, every small thing can work against you when you are in a long-distance relationship. Today, we gathered young women ranging in age from their late teens to their late 20s who are currently in long-distance relationships, and asked them to share their tips on how to shut out that little voice inside your head.
1. Focus on work or your studies.
“When a bad thought consumes me, I force myself not to think of him. Instead, I take on extra work to get my mind off things,” explains a woman in her 20s. Find something that you can focus on, and you’ll be able to shut out any unpleasant thoughts about him. Don’t wait too long to try and reset your mind. Do so while the unpleasant thought is still small and manageable.
